(wanko=puppy/endearing way of saying dog, J=Juri, H=Host)
Channeling wanko's feelings...
H1: Now, let's start the introductions. In charge of the narration for Wanko the movie 2, we have Ueno Juri-san! Good morning!
J: Good morning.
H1: This is your fifth time as a guest here in Mezamashi TV's studio.
J: Yes.
H1: Actually, you've always came together with someone. At a time with Takenaga Naoko-san, then there's Tamaki Hiroshi-san, and once with Nagasawa Masami-san. For the first time, you have come to this studio on your own.
J: Yes. *laughs* Feels kinda lonely doesn't it?
H1: And the reason for it is, this time, you're officially a member of the Mezamashi family. You can't say you're not.
J: It does seems that way. Yes, I'm thankful.
H1: It's our pleasure. So, this time, you came not as an actress, but as a narrator-san.
H2: How was it? Your feelings when you first knew about this narration job?
J: I really like animals so I was really looking forward to it. But, at first I only get the script without having the images/video accompanying it. Just like everyone here, when you read the news and such, there's the script but you haven't even seen the footages yet. So, everyday during recording, it becomes something that you have to tackle on the spot and just do it. That aspect is amazing. For me, it took between 7 to 8 hours each time. While looking at the images on screen, then slowly having the emotions fill me while narrating, else I won't be able to do it.
H1: I see. Here, we have 3 maruze(?) points for the movie.
J: I just said the first one. *laughs*
H1: 'It took a lot of time.' This have been mentioned by all the staff as well. During the evening, coming in at around 4 or 5pm, from what I heard, you'd stay till the next morning?
J: I totally didn't realize about the time. Looking at the screen, and myself also having fun while reading the script, I think it's a good thing. But when I ask how long should it take, they said 'however much time is fine'. Or when I ask what time does it end, nobody gave me an answer. When I realize it...it's already the next day.
H3: And that's how you manage to come out with a narration you're satisfied with?
J: Yes. Though I've only done this once, yes.
H1: But on your own discretion, you say, "I want to redo this part" and challenging it again, there are times like that too?
J: That's true. Following along with the images on screen, there are times when I get nervous or when emotions got too strong and the voice starts to waver. Those are not okay. Um, I guess if you wanna say it's hard, it is kinda hard.
H2: After you've done this, what do you think is the main difference between acting and a narration?
J: Heh...Somehow, there's a feeling of calmness in it(for narration)
H1: That's probably related to our 2nd point here, "Filled with feelings". So, when you tell the story, there are parts where you tell it as it is and also parts where you tell the story from wanko's point of view, their feelings.
J: That's right. Yes. For narrations, in the movies, you normally just express the voice inside human hearts, so it's like, how do you say it, a whispering kind of feeling. But wanko's energy is really big and overpowering, it's as if I myself have become wanko. Having fun while reading out loud, I feel that it's the most important thing for a good narration.
H1: I see. And the 3rd point, "A bond has been born". From the 3 points given, it's all very good things. The bond between human and wanko.
J: Yeah. It's a movie that tells of these wankos from the start, and after that, the result of what happens to them, after months and years of following after wanko's life. The story of these final 9 puppies. It's really touching.
H1: Something like, the puppies have been born, after 12 years, what happens to them?
J: Yes, how they're getting along at each of their homes. And it's being made into a picture book as well. I was really touched by it.
H1: Somehow, as expected, when Ueno Juri narrates, it's different compare to the normal narrator-san's style. There's this, nice feeling that you can't put a name to. I think it's fantastic.
J: *shyly* You're making me blush. *laughs*
H2: But clearly it appears as if you've found something new out of yourself with this experience.
J: That's right. This is all thanks to Mezamashi TV-san's kindness. (the movie is a mezamashi tv production)
H1: Would you like to try narrating again?
J: I would like to do it again.
H1: Yes. And so, with Ueno Juri-san's visit today, you're increasingly becoming a member of Mezamashi family. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
J: Yoroshiku onegaishimasu~
H1: We'll be waiting for your 6th appearance in our studio.
H4: We apologize if you feel troubled.
H1: Last Friends was really awesome as well/
H4: You're saying that now??
J: *laughs* Thank you very much.

Re: Juri is awesome :)
Yeah, though some people misinterpret her dedication as being 'demanding'...I thik she's just someone who knows how to differentiate between work and play and put 100% in both. =3 Thanks for all the comments~ Heheh, you should consider joining this comm. There's some hidden goodies. ;)July 29 2008, 09:49:03 UTC 3 years ago
Re: Juri is awesome :)
Yeah, strong women do sometimes get a lot of flak. When a man is driven towards his goals, he is called 'ambitious'. But when a women is similarly driven, she's known as a bitch. Can we say double standards? *roll eyes*And thanks for all your contribution to this LJ. :) I've already joined the comm. What goodies are you refering to?

Re: Juri is awesome :)
Indeed. Especially true in Japan I think. Btw, I just saw an interview dating back to her Swing Girls days. Shiraishi Miho(co-starred with her in Orange Days, Swing Girls and Nodame) commented that Juri-chan requested to re-do the crying scene again and again until she felt it was perfect. It's comforting to know that she's as 'ambitious' then as she is now. =3Oh, the goodies, I just meant the locked/download posts. ^^

"Juri-chan requested to re-do the crying scene again and again until she felt it was perfect." Now that's dedication, and I'd expect no less from Juri. *nods*Ah, the locked posts. Yes, I got all the goodies there. :)

As an aside... Even though I hear Aegisub is great, I used Jubler (as it seems like the only one for Mac OSX). That program was ridiculously easy to use, so I would highly recommend it!

Hopefully Juri-chan does more narration work, especially for NGC or other nature channels.

As for Juri-chan, have you seen Earth Odyssey? I've only skim through it... but I think something like that is nice. Juri traveling to different places like Africa, getting close to the people and animals there while having fun... I'm hoping that they would invite her to do stuff like that more often. But since she's getting more and more famous/busy, it's gonna be harder. :(

That movie sort of made me rediscover my Nikon FE (I enjoy taking pictures), and I'm buying Kodachrome 64s next week (she uses Kodachrome 40 in the movie).

Btw, I made a mistake on the date of the video, it wasn't [08.07.24], but it was supposed to be [08.07.25].
But if you don't care about detail as much as I do, then don't bother. :p
And also thanks for the softsub. :)
